Race Report 7: Logan Running Festival, Berrinba Wetlands 14km

Race Report: Logan Running Festival, Berrinba Wetlands, Logan
Distance Run: 14km
Date: 22nd September 2019

This event was a must do for us after running it last year where we had such a great time.

The course is a 7km loop through the wetland reserve which makes it perfect for the four distances run, 7km, 14km, 21.1km half, and 42.2km full marathon and with a 9hour cutoff it gives everyone a chance to challenge themselves without worrying about not making the distance before the course closes.

Our choice of the 14k gave Bernice an opportunity to extend her distance as she rebuilds her running with strength training at the Gym and regular 5k parkruns and it was also great  that we could run it together before heading south to Adelaide the following weekend for the Ultra runners South Australia 6day race.

At the start it was a little crowded until the field started to spread out and then for a brief time when the leading half marathon runners came through, but then everyone could settle into their own pace with plenty of room to pass or be passed and enjoy the bush and water views. Though on some parts of the loop when you were out from under the trees it was quite hot, having an aid station halfway around and at the start/finish meant that staying hydrated was not a problem.

As with the previous year they were very successful in creating an almost party atmosphere with an M C announcing names and progress as runners passed through the start/finish area on each loop, having the various tents along the side and a mobile burger van and coffee van, it meant that people stayed on for a while after finishing there run and encouraged others still doing loops in the longer events.

One of the unique features of this event is the ability for runners to create there own personalised race bib when completing there entry, everything from Batman to Pinkgirlz to Runnut and more, and then there is the medal, the colourful running singlet, and the goodies bag for all finishers that this year contained a truckers cap and an armband pocket that will take a phone and car keys etc.

Will we be back next year, I would definitely think so and we have no hesitation in recommending this event to others whatever there ability may be.

Thanks again Logan running festival for a great day out and to our sponsors Pogo Physio and Nike Robina for your support this year.
